The Kanosuke Hioki Pot Still 2024 Edition is a limited Japanese release that blurs the line between tradition and invention. Produced at Hioki Distillery, the sister site to Kanosuke, it draws on a heritage of shochu-making to create a grain whisky of striking clarity and depth.

Crafted from both malted and unmalted barley, the whisky is distilled in rare stainless steel pot stills under vacuum pressure, a method borrowed from shochu that tempers heavier compounds and yields a lighter, silkier spirit. Maturation takes place in a thoughtful mix of new American white oak, ex-bourbon, and re-charred ex-shochu casks, layering subtle sweetness and gentle bitterness in balance. Bottled at 55% ABV and awarded Gold at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards, this release shows why Kanosuke has quickly become one of Japan’s most talked-about producers.
